I will have a better idea of whether or not I am right when I have compared the two systems in some detail. So far it has done a fine job except for one thing.
Nikon capture nx2 trial software#
Few weeks ago I published a post about the free RAW2NEF software an alternative solution that allows you to edit Nikon D810 NEF/RAW files with Capture NX2. Ive been using Capture NX2 trial version which is set to expire in 2 more weeks. Nikon camera settings are applied to jpeg files, but jpeg files are not synonymous with highest image quality. As you probably already know Capture NX2 is no longer supported by Nikon and it is replaced by the less capable Capture NX-D version. Having banks of camera presets is a fast way of reducing RAW post processing - providing Lightroom applies the camera settings to RAW files. When a Nikon RAW file is open as yet I am unclear as to whether the camera settings are applied to the Lightroom file. Buy Nikon Capture NX 2 Photo Editing Software featuring U Point Technology, Supports RAW (NEF) Files, Integrates with All Nikon Software, Redesigned Interface. Where Lightroom seems to score is working from a jpeg preview for speed of opening, together with more refined local colour control and more intuitive control. All software is just a tool and the photographer needs to add some skill and creativity. If you already have Capture, as I d,o there is little advantage to Lightroom, if you want to do no more than Capture does.Įven batch processing is not difficult in Capture although you do have to you implement your own presets first, which requires fairly advanced Capture knowledge. Nikon Capture NX2 was written by Nik and uses some of the algorithms from SiverEfex in the mono conversion. The point I was trying to make is that for local image editing such as highlight, shadow, sharpness, contrast and colour adjustments the two systems achieve the same result though by different methods. I have no knowledge of Capture and would be interested to know what you felt is missing in Lightroom compared to a 3 year old Capture ?
